SUCCESSFUL CAMPAIGN CELEBRATED
Deputy City Manager Rick Naimark, department heads and Community Service Fund Drive leaders celebrated this year’s successful campaign, which has raised more than $1.1 million for Valley of the Sun United Way and other nonprofit organizations.

The following awards were presented during a breakfast celebration at the Rio Salado Audubon Center:   

• “We Care” Award (presented to the department that provides outstanding all-around support to the fund drive): Parks and Recreation.

• Outstanding Department Award (based on a formula that combines a department’s increased per-capita giving over last year; increased total number of donors from last year; and/or the amount of actual funds raised over last year): City Council, extra small department; City Clerk and City Manager’s Office, tie (small department); Neighborhood Services (medium department); Phoenix Convention Center (large department); and Police (extra-large department).

• Chairman’s Award (selected by the campaign’s chairperson for outstanding achievement by an employee, group of employees or a department): Shaelin Charania, City Auditor; Kristina Blea and Phyllis Crawford, Human Services; and the Human Services Department for providing staffing for the HOPE Fund program for the past 16 years.  

• Shining Star Awards (recognizes a lead or assistant representative who has gone “above and beyond” for CSFD): Melissa G. Hoffman, City Manager’s Office; Therese Malbrew, Finance; Monica Figueroa, City Clerk; Cindi Wilson, Parks and Recreation; and Anthony Chavez, Parks and Recreation.

CSFD Chairwoman Kweilin Waller, Neighborhood Services, also was honored for her leadership. Next year’s chairman will be Doug Mummert with Fire, who led the 2008 campaign.
